Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel launched the state's Integrated Renewable Energy Policy 2025 on Dec. 25, aiming to exceed 100 gigawatts of renewable capacity by 2030 and attract over 5.75 lakh crore rupees ($68 billion) in investments.
The policy, unveiled during a state-level event in Gandhinagar, promotes solar, wind and hybrid projects while offering incentives for green hydrogen production and grid upgrades. It also encourages interstate collaborations with Rajasthan and Maharashtra to bolster clean energy infrastructure.
Officials said the initiative aligns with India's net-zero goals by 2070, with provisions for rooftop wind turbines and pumped hydro storage to enhance energy security.
Patel highlighted Gujarat's leadership in renewables, noting the state already hosts 29 gigawatts of installed capacity. The policy is expected to create 3.5 lakh jobs and reduce carbon emissions by 125 million tons annually, according to government estimates.
In parallel developments, India marked 2025 with several iconic infrastructure openings. The Navi Mumbai International Airport became operational in mid-2025, handling up to 90 million passengers yearly and developed by Adani Airports at a cost of 16,000 crore rupees. The 701-kilometer Samruddhi Mahamarg expressway, connecting Mumbai and Nagpur, was fully completed by midyear, slashing travel time by 50% and boosting trade in Maharashtra.
Other highlights include the Z-Morh Tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir, opened after a 2,700 crore rupee investment for all-weather connectivity, and the Sela Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh, providing strategic border access.
Uttar Pradesh approved a 1,246 crore rupee greenfield expressway linking Jewar Airport to the Ganga Expressway, enhancing industrial connectivity.
Indian Railways rationalized passenger fares effective Dec. 26, with minor increases: no change for journeys up to 215 kilometers, 5 rupees more for 216-750 kilometers and 10 rupees for longer distances. The move aims to streamline operations without affecting suburban services.
These projects underscore India's infrastructure surge, supported by 1.8% core sector growth in November 2025, driven by cement (8.3%), steel (5.2%), fertilizers (5.6%) and coal (2.1%). Cumulative April-November growth stood at 4.1%, reflecting resilience amid global challenges.
Key players like Adani Green Energy, Tata Power and the Border Roads Organisation, under Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, are driving these efforts
