PM GatiShakti Marks 4 Years of its National Master Plan (NMP), celebrating a shift toward integrated, data-driven infrastructure planning crucial for achieving the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India). The Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced a suite of transformative tools to boost multi-modal connectivity and streamline project execution.

Key Milestones and New Launches

The four-year anniversary was marked by the launch of several major initiatives:

  1. District Master Plans (DMPs): These localized geospatial planning tools are now being rolled out across all 112 Aspirational Districts. This crucial step enables precise mapping of development needs in underserved areas, directly benefiting 25% of India’s population by facilitating coordinated growth in social and economic infrastructure.
  2. Unified Geospatial Interface (UGI): The launch of the "PM GatiShakti Public" platform through the UGI democratizes access to a selection of non-sensitive geospatial data. This is a game-changer for private entities, consultants, and researchers, allowing them to use PM GatiShakti's interface for planning and leveraging over 1,500 integrated data layers for better project design.
  3. PM GatiShakti–Offshore: A dedicated platform introduced to enhance integrated planning and management of offshore development, critical for strengthening maritime connectivity and India's 'Blue Economy' focus.

Impact and Progress

Since its inception, the PM GatiShakti NMP has been instrumental in integrating 58 Central Ministries and all 36 States/UTs onto a single digital platform. This whole-of-government approach has been a cornerstone in addressing traditional project delays and cost overruns due to fragmented planning.

The initiative has successfully mapped 1.8 lakh km of roads and evaluated hundreds of projects worth over ₹15 Lakh Crore through its Network Planning Group (NPG) mechanism. Economists project that this push for efficiency and seamless connectivity will drive down India’s high logistics costs, aiming for the ambitious target of reducing them from ≈13% of GDP to 7.8%–8.9% in the near term, with further goals for global parity. As GatiShakti enters its fifth year, its focus remains firmly on accelerating the pace of project execution, ensuring long-term economic resilience, and empowering local development.
